$500 Scholarships Offered by Saint Mary Mokena Knights

The Saint Mary Mokena Knights of Columbus has announced the 19th annual Anne G. Sitzberger Memorial Scholarship, available to one eighth-grade student entering high school and to one high school senior entering college.

Both scholarships are worth $500 and are awarded based on an essay each applicant must write about community service that they have performed in the past 12 months. Essays are due by Saturday, June 30, 2018.

Each scholarship applicant must have graduated in 2018, and his or her family must be registered as a parishioner of St. Mary Mokena Catholic Church. Scholarship money is to be used for tuition or school/book fees.

The scholarship began in 2000 after the passing of Anne Sitzberger, who was the wife of  Arthur Sitzberger,  founder of the St. Mary Knights. “Anne was a member of St. Mary parish and a very active parishioner in both the school and church,” says Tim Cosgrove, treasurer of the St. Mary Knights.

Since its inception, the scholarship has awarded $18,000 to deserving students entering high school and college.

Applicants can email essays to Tim Cosgrove at sox1985@att.net.

They can also be mailed to: Knights of Columbus, Attn: Tim Cosgrove, 1026 Stonegate Road, New Lenox, IL. 60451.
