The St. Mary Mokena choirs held a St. Lucy-themed Christmas concert on Friday, December 13th. This fourth annual Do-it-Yourself Christmas concert encouraged audience participation in singing traditional carols such as “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful,” and the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

New this year was a focus on the Swedish tradition of St. Lucy’s Day. The children’s choir processed into the church holding candles and singing the traditional Swedish song “Lucia.” One girl was dressed as St. Lucy, wearing a candle wreath on her head.
After the concert, volunteers served everyone homemade Swedish St. Lucia buns in honor of the feast day.
