St. Mary Mokena is encouraging parishioners to participate in this year’s 40 Days For Life Campaign, a prayerful vigil outside the Planned Parenthood in Flossmoor, IL. The vigil’s goal is to end abortion through prayer and fasting.
Parishioners can sign up to pray outside the facility individually, with a friend, or with a group any day between 8 am and 8 pm from February 26 (Ash Wednesday) to April 5, 2020.
“St. Mary parishioners can have an extremely powerful effect in participating in the 40 Days For Life because by standing peacefully and prayerfully in front of abortion locations, you are sending the message of God’s love,” explains Karen, who is helping coordinate the campaign.
“We are using the power of prayer to end abortion…Former Planned Parenthood workers report that the “no show” rate for abortion appointments can go as high as 75% when people are outside praying in front of abortion locations,” she continues.
The campaign is similar to other initiatives throughout the region and across the country. Other local campaigns take place in Aurora and Downer’s Grove. The Flossmoor location was chosen to accommodate St. Mary parishioners, who might not be able to make the trip to Aurora.
Some parishioners are hesitant to participate due to fear of getting heckled by pro-abortion opponents outside the facility. To help provide support, Karen will be on-site on February 26th for a kick-off event. She says that the events are almost never as confrontational as the media portrays and provides the following words of encouragement:
“We are the Church Militant, soldiers for Christ here on earth. Evil has no power over our Almighty God. Stay close to Jesus, our Blessed Mother Mary, and all the Angels and Saints…St. Mary Parish has a lot of love to give and now we need to take our love and faith to the streets and evangelize…We need to be courageous in protecting life from the moment of conception until natural death.”
